I'm a philosopher and writer. I have a PhD in philosophy from New York University and a BA in philosophy from UC Berkeley. I'm an Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of San Diego.
Most of my work is about art and life and how they intersect. For example, I write about personal style, how beauty can change who we are or what we care about, how to pursue aesthetic value in our lives, personal ideals, and self-presentation, among other things. I also keep a philosophical eye on contemporary artistic and ethical culture. I've published articles about street art and graffiti, and I have a book forthcoming about the contemporary ideal of being awesome and not sucking, On Being Awesome: A Unified Theory of How Not to Suck (Penguin Books, Fall 2017).
